he had me at hello (👋)

A note from Katie:
This one was the last to make it on the record. It came from a moment at the Deni Ute Muster where I met this super cute cowboy and we did a shirt swap. I'm a girl who usually has her head down and focused on the next task, so to share a flirty moment with a stranger across a bar was pretty out of the ordinary for me. It reminded me that I'm a woman! That it doesn't have to be all work and no play and I was reminded I had this song in the back pocket. At this point we had already started recording the other 9 songs from the record and I knew that this one: A. had to go on the record and B. had to be the next thing we released! So I called my producer and luckily he made some time for me to fly back up to brisbane to track He Had Me At Hello.
The video below is from the studio. If you've ever wanted to see the behind the scenes of content, here it is lol. I was miming (mostly) to overlay the track later to make reels for TikTok and Instagram.
I met Luke Austen after he posted on Facebook looking for a date to The Golden Guitar Awards in 2017. I jumped at the chance to make my carpet debut and Luke and I made fast friends. He was a bit of a mentor for me at the beginning of my career, he had such a thorough knowledge of country music and a passion for writing songs that it became quite natural for us to meet up and write. There are two Luke Austen co-writes on this record but there are so many more sitting in the vault. This demo was recorded just to get the track down in full and it's what I sent to my producer all those years later.
