I’m really proud of this song because I wrote it on guitar.

I’ve never considered myself a strong player, but I pushed myself to learn so I could write on my own — without relying on co-writes to express what I was trying to say. This was one of the first songs where I felt like I could sit down with just a guitar and trust my own voice.

It also came at a time when I was starting to understand music a little more technically. I’d always felt music rather than analysed it, but around then I was learning about things like time signatures — and this was one of the first songs that naturally fell into 6/8.

There was something really exciting about that… like a new layer of understanding opening up.

And in a way, that was part of Do It Like A Man too —
learning something new and just going for it, full steam ahead.

A note from Katie:

This is one of those songs that just wouldn’t let me go.

I actually took it into the studio years ago as a potential follow-up to one of my early singles, but at the time we’d just released a ballad, so we decided to hold off. Instead, I shared a simple acoustic/lyric version, and it stayed in our live set for a while before eventually finding its proper home on this album.

Looking back, I think this song was written at a really important time in my life. I was in my second year of uni, starting to understand the world in a deeper way — especially when it came to things like inequality, and how those experiences shape us.

At the time, I didn’t fully have the language for it, but I was learning that I could be honest about what I was seeing and feeling… even if it made people a little uncomfortable.

This song feels like an early moment of me finding my voice — not just as a songwriter, but as a person.

I’ve included some live versions, early demos, and acoustic takes here because this one has lived a few different lives before landing on the album.

And maybe now… it finally gets its moment.
I've linked some vids of the song over the years so you can see how it's grown but really not changed from the original demo. I think my biggest wish is that this song got it's crowd sing-a-long moment. And who knows, it could still happen one day :)

We shot the music video at The Selfie Studio in Newcastle. Jeremy from Eyes and Ears Creative worked on most of the videos from the album. This day we shot 4 videos in the selfie studio using the different backgrounds. This was the first video we filmed that day so there isn't a lot of BTS as we were just kind of settling in for the day ahead but I still love looking back on these memories.
