TOO BIG FOR YOUR BOOTS

A note from Katie:
This track was one of the newer ones written for the album. I remember making merch with my sister when I asked her if the line "a girl like me likes a well worn shoe" makes sense for a song and she said "no". I did it any way. I think that's the beautiful thing about songwriting, it almost feels like I have no choice, even if something doesn't quite make sense, I have to get out of the way and leave me logic and perfectionist tendencies at the door. I had this movie in my head of a trailer park in the deep south (USA) where everybody knows you're business! The story follows a cheating partner getting caught by the girls family and she's mad!!! The chorus also serves as a personal anthem for me too because at the time I had people in my life who were taking advantage of my kindness. I soon put a stop to that AND got a great song idea out of it :)
So the absolutely funnest part of this demo was sending it to my producer with absolutely no music, it's just me, a metronome and the melody straight out of my head. You can hear that the song it fully formed minus a couple of lines at the end of the second chorus and we later added a bridge. I loved getting to write a song like this because it's how I've been writing songs my whole life, lyrics and melody floating around my head before becoming a real and tangible thing. I Also really love that I was confident enough to send Jared this because it's really not how things are supposed to be done. I honestly believe that if I tried to put chords to this, it would have changed the song and limited it's potential. I really hope you're enjoying getting to dive in to the behind the scenes of the songs as much as I am enjoying opening them up :)
